Sörmlands Museum, Eskilstuna Folkhögskola and Studiefrämjande held the event ”understand clothes” at Sweden’s first (and only) Recycling galleria. Mistra Future Fashion’s Sigrid Barnekow talked sustainable fashion to consumers and joined a panel discussion together with Swedish Environmental Protection agency, H&M, Conscious Consumers and Fairtrade. The event was led by moderator from Futuerra. Barnekow highlighted how one of the biggest challenges is to change people’s perception of clothes – instead of thinking about garments as something we create, use and waste, we need to value clothing. If each garment where to be used three times longer than today, the average garment’s environmental effect would decrease with 70 %.
