Dr Sandra Roos is taking the next step in her research by converting LCA data into useful tools for the fashion industry together with key stakeholders. Earlier this year Sandra Roos at Swerea IVF broke new ground within LCA research when she presented her dissertation, for the first time including chemical impact. Now she is starting trial implementation with selected stakeholders.

One of the ongoing projects is to evaluate whether integration with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s (SAC) sustainability tool Higg Materials Sustainability Index is possible. The LCA data would help in calculating a quantitative chemical’s toxicity score for each material used in clothing production. Using harmonized criteria would make it easier to assess and compare the impact of different garment options for both producers and consumers. A first discussion with SAC is started.
